Orange County Convention Center Health and Safety

The Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) is monitoring the global COVID-19 outbreak. The safety of our guests and attendees is our No. 1 priority and swift proactive measures have been taken in response to a rapidly evolving situation. We continue to monitor the situation through updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Florida Department of Public Health, along with direct dialogue with Orange County Government officials. The OCCC is adhering to guidelines from the CDC and continues to urge people to take health precautions including washing hands regularly and observing social distancing.

The OCCC is meeting on a regular basis with key stakeholders at Orange County Government, the Florida Department of Health, Visit Orlando and partner agencies to evaluate this new and rapidly changing situation. The OCCC is also actively monitoring CDC and World Health Organization (WHO) updates for further information.

On-site Preparedness Plan

The OCCC recommends conventions implement handshake-free meetings and conventions for the foreseeable future.

Sanitation Measures

The OCCC has a disinfectant procedure in place for cleanings which adhere to the CDC and WHO guidance. There is also an increased number of hand sanitation sites available at the OCCC and surrounding campus, providing alcohol-based hand sanitizer for all attendees and staff.

Other precautionary measures include enhancing onsite communications and signage regarding CDC recommendations, increasing the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting bathrooms and commonly touched objects like hand railings, door handles and ongoing training for OCCC staff and partners for best practices on providing a safe and healthy environment.

Recovery and Resiliency Plan for Business Continuity

The OCCC Executive Team is working hard to ensure business continuity at the OCCC, and to support of Orange County’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. To begin incrementally hosting modified events, the OCCC’s Recovery and Resiliency Committee has worked on a set of new guidelines. The guidelines were approved by Orange County Government’s Health Services and the OCCC Executive Team. Those guidelines have been released to employees, all clients, stakeholders and media and are located on the OCCC website, www.occc.net/guidelines. Keeping the health and safety of guests, employees, and the community continues to be a priority. The OCCC will continue to monitor policy changes from the CDC, state and federal mandates.

Community-Based Testing Sites are state-managed and locally executed operations integrated with broader state public health services which may require varying levels of federal personnel support. The U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services (HHS) remains the lead federal agency for the management of the response to COVID-19. HHS Regions will provide technical medical expertise, employ supplemental medical personnel, and manage the delivery of testing supplies to State-designated logistics sites. FEMA’s role has been assisting HHS with planning, coordination, logistics, and outreach with supporting states to identify sites and operational requirements. Media inquiries about testing sites are best-directed to state and local officials who are managing or running the sites. Media inquiries and interview requests for HHS should go to ASPRMEDIA@hhs.gov. Media inquiries about FEMA’s role should be directed to 202-646-3272 or FEMA-News-Desk@fema.dhs.gov.

On March 16, the Orange County Convention Center committed to working with local, state and federal partners to provide the Destination Flat Parking Lot as a drive-through Community-Based Testing Site for the Central Florida region. This will not impact business operations and all testing will take place externally in the Destination Flat Parking Lot at 5980 Destination Pkwy, Orlando, FL 32819. As a community partner, we offered the remote Destination Flat Parking Lot to assist the region in its time of need. The external Destination Flat Parking Lot is a remote location away from the West and North-South Buildings and its use for this purpose will in no way negatively impact the safety and security of our employees and future guests.
